Among the many myths about albinism in Africa, none shames humanity more than the belief that the body parts of people with albinism can make charms that bring wealth and success.
Africa’s precious, beautiful, and intelligent children with albinism too often live with fear and ridicule, stigmatized and shunned by society.
That danger was real for Cedrick, Clement, Fanny, Rodriguez, and Rosine, whose parents were threatened that their children would be kidnapped and sold to witchcraft practitioners. The family fled the Democratic Republic of Congo to Kenya and now lives in Kangemi, Nairobi.
Their education is now fully supported by the Dr. Choksey Albinism Foundation, and each child has received free prescription photochromatic glasses.
